Okwa Sarefo
Botswana Safari Guide
Okwa Sarefo was born and grew up in the North Western part of Botswana in the well known Okavango Delta. A remote area which had no electricity, no road transport and no supermarket explains how Okwa Sarefo’s interest in wildlife started at an early age. During this time, Okwa had no idea or interest in conservation, and instead spent his time fishing and hunting with his father. The families major method of transport during his youth was dug out canoes (mokoro), and so Okwa learned how to pole when he was 8 years old.
Okwa was employed by O.W.S in 1993 as a Pooler and then became a full professional guide in 1996. Achieving very high marks in his exams led him to take a position at Mombo, a lovely lodge within the Okavango. Okwa worked at Mombo from 1993 to 1999.
In 2000 Okwa was selected as one of the top guides within the company in Botswana and because of this achievement, he was chosen to transfer as a guide for the same company to their remote camps in South Africa. During this period he worked at camps in the Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Game Reserve. In addition he did several courses, which included Weapon handling and Nature Walk/tracking training.
Okwa decided to join CC Africa Expeditions in 1994 and continued to excel with his guiding which led him being promoted to Assistant Operations Manager for Expeditions and ‘Botswana Under Canvas’. These two products had 69 staff members who were under Okwa’s supervision. Self motivated, eager to learn and positive manner are all natural gifts within Okwa’s character.
He joined African Bush Camps in February 2010 as a Guide along with assisting in management and being the relief manager for Linyanti Bush Camp and Khwai Tented Camp. When he is out in the bush Okwa enjoys himself all the activities on offer, but it is the Walking Safaris which are his favorite.
Okwa is now a resident safari guide in the Linyanti area in Botswana, serving both Linyanti Bush Camp and Linyanti Ebony.
