Magnetic Moments in the Wild

Kanga Expeditions is a wild untouched paradise within a private concession in Mana Pools National Park. In this remote southwestern stretch, vlei lines, mopane woodland and riverine forests give way to intriguing discoveries beyond the banks of the Zambezi River. As the sole source of water in the dry season, Kanga Pan creates a haven for wildlife, drawing animals from near and far to the heart of Kanga Expeditions. Here, you’re bound to experience untamed magnetic encounters as you embark on an enriching African safari.

Promising luxury in the wild, Kanga Expeditions comprises six Meru-style tents with floor-to-ceiling mesh windows inviting fresh air and natural light to filter in. Powered by solar, each tent has an ensuite with hot running water, an outdoor shower and a secluded veranda elevated above ground to take in the views of the pan outside. Designed for reconnecting in nature, our Family Tent features a wraparound terrace with private seating and dining areas overlooking the pan. The luxurious honeymoon tent features a rolltop bath on an adjoining secluded deck, setting the scene for a romantic starlit bath in nature.

Under the shade of a mahogany tree, our inviting upper deck entices you to slip away for a moment of calm or to birdwatch over the pan. For gathering between activities, Kanga Expeditions boasts a full bar and plunge pool for reprieve in the warmth of the day.

Activities at Kanga Expeditions include guided walking safaris through the concession and thrilling day and night game drives led by our qualified and passionate local guides. Keeping with African Bush Camps’ family-friendly nature, children over seven are welcome at Kanga Expeditions.

Open from April to the end of November, Kanga Expeditions pairs well with Zambezi Expeditions, where you can enjoy the excitement of canoeing and catch-and-release tiger fishing on the mighty Zambezi River.

Reviews

  • Go in the heart of the dry season and the game viewing should be very good. Beautiful setting, excellent facilities. Staff quickly becomes family. Sings you into camp and cares for guests beautifully. Excellent and varied cuisine. Well maintained.

  • Mana Pools is a very special National Park and Kanga Camp with its water pan is probably the most special permanent camp in Mana. It is run by the excellent African Bush Camps. The site is fabulous. Just sitting on the deck overlooking the Kanga pan we had visits from Elephants, Impala, Kudu, Eland, Buffalo, a Wild Dog Pack with seven puppies, Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Hyena and of innumerable birds including the rare Crested Guinea Fowl.

  • This is an amazing camp. There is a huge waterhole right in front of the main building and all day long animals come to drink. You see more animals at the waterhole than on a game drive!

This camp is set in the wilderness of Mana Pool. There are only 12 luxurious tents all with outdoor shower, basin and toilet. Enjoy the bush while you shower!

Our Local Foundation Projects

The Vukani Group Project

The Vukani Group Project is a community of women who are making beautiful, handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and napkin rings out of recycled magazines. This project takes items that we typically throw away and repurposes them into something beautiful. Items are for sale at the ABC trading post in our camp.

Khwai Pre School

Khwai village has a population of approximately 400 BaBukakhwe (River Bushmen), the majority of which are from low-income households. The service delivery in this community is limited and faces challenges accessing education, health facilities and water and electricity connections. The community of Khwai was without a pre-school school in the area. Primary school learners would attend boarding schools out of the village in Maun and surrounding communities.

Thandanani Sewing Group

Thandanani, which means “love each other,” is a local sewing group run by women in the community of Dete, in Hwange.
